Sock Knitting for Beginners: A new class at Assa Marra Wool Studio in the English Lake District.

I’m thrilled to be announcing my new course debuting at Assa Marra Wool Studio, home of my great friend and long time collaborator, Susan Crawford.

I was so excited when Susan invited me teach at her wonderful new studio in Staveley in the Lake District. It provides the perfect opportunity to spend some time together with knitters doing one of the things I’ve always loved doing, teaching; and exploring the empowering potential of learning new skills. This is something I try to integrate into my pattern design but it’s so much more fun and energising doing it in person.

So a beginners sock knitting class. What can you expect?

We’ll be working a cuff down, slip stitch heel and gusset sock, and if you’re in any way uncertain quite what that means, this is the perfect class for you.

From a stretchy cast-on to make sure the sock fits over the widest part of your foot, to a sturdy slip stitch heel and well-fitting gusset, through to a beautifully grafted toe, you will learn all the techniques you need to knit socks with confidence.

As well as actually knitting a miniature sock so you can practice these skills with both dpns and magic loop, we’ll also be talking through the construction of a sock, the various options for different elements of the sock, sock terminology, fit, what to look for when choosing sock yarn and so much more.

So there’s lots to pack into this full day course that will take place on SATURDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER, 10.30 – 3.30!

Space is limited to just 8 spots; this way you can be sure that we can give you individual attention and assistance so that you leave confidence to knit your first full sized pair of socks. What’s more, a full 100g skein of Susan Crawford sock yarn is included in the price of the course so you’ll be all set.

One of the things preparing this course has reminded me of is how much I enjoy preparing teaching and training materials, including handouts, so as well as a sock pattern designed from preemie to XL adult sized feet, you’ll also have comprehensive course notes to refer to and to keep you on track after the course itself.

If you have any questions about the course, you can check out the details on Susan’s website.

This is also the link to sign up.

I look forward to meeting you, but I feel I should warn you, sock knitting, and wearing hand made socks, can be a little habit forming.
