Socks…

Nothing says ‘cosy’ like handknit socks. A fabulous, small, portable project that often combines rhythmic knitting and a little more concentrated effort, socks are the perfect expression of your skill and expertise in a compact giftable knit. Be careful though, once you, or a lucky gift recipient, have worn hand knit socks, it’s difficult to go back to anything less.

Ringwood Socks

The Ringwood stitch was my Grandmother’s signature stitch and here I’ve used it to bring out the colours in very variegated yarns and really make them pop. This stitch pattern was traditionally used to make gloves in Ringwood, approximately 20 miles from where I grew up and the centre of a cottage industry of glove making in Victorian Britain.

A surprisingly simple but effective pattern, the instructions are provided for both a top down sock, an ideal first sock pattern, and once confident with the form and construction you can always move on to the toe up version which is also included in the pattern.

The pattern is easy to remember and to read from your knitting – this really is my go anywhere, knit anywhere sock pattern for lovely squishy cosy socks.
