I’m sure you’ve noticed the popularity of knitted bandanas or neckerchiefs of late.
They’re perfect for single balls of yarn in your stash and leftovers from larger projects and knit up in no time. Also because they’re small, they’re perfect summer knitting and perfect as quick fun gifts.
So when I got to the long overdue update for my Lewth shawl pattern first published back in November 2014 (gasp, even I didn’t realise it was so long ago) I decided to add a smaller bandana version.
So as well as the original version that used 2 x 100g skeins of DK yarn, there’s now a bandana/neckerchief version that uses just a single 50g ball of DK Yarn.
One of the things I always liked about this pattern with its tip to tip construction was the how good both tips look themselves so they’re perfect for being tied at the neck and being very much part of the show.
On both the bandana and shawl the edge stitches are worked to create a faux i-cord effect which is also very neat.
The real star of the show in both versions of Lewth however is the textured stitch and this was really fun to revisit. It’s a simple travelling rib so just a 4 stitch 8 row pattern repeat but it’s so effective.
While the new pattern includes both the small and the original larger size, this pattern is so easy customise to your preferred size or to the amount of yarn you have. The pattern includes fuller instructions but basically with this type of tip to tip construction, if you just use half your yarn on the increase section yo can then then use the remaining yarn on the decrease section.
If you want to know more about the original design including the poem that inspired the choice of the Dorset dialect name, you can check out the original release post.
Anyone who has already bought the pattern on Ravelry should have received an update notification and the new version of the pattern has been uploaded to Payhip and Love Knitting, so if you purchased the pattern there you should have access to the new version. .
If this pattern is new to you and you want to try it you can purchase it via the links on my shawls, cowls and wraps pattern page where you can browse other patterns, or directly from Payhip, Lovecrafts, or Ravelry.
Thank you as always for supporting my knitting pattern design work. It really is appreciated.
Happy Knitting,
Tess xxx
